Though located inland distant away from the coastline, Minoru Mori is hard hit by the earthquake. It was a picturesque place with nice hotels established around the tourist area. In a hotel balcony one can overlook the azure and endless horizon of the sea. Fishermen released their catch after a whole day work. The aftermath is a dismal emblem of rubble. Cars and trucks sit atop the half destroyed buildings. The city is waterlogged.
The medicals and firefighters rushed to the scene but the aftershocks has repelled them. The official estimated 10,000 life lost and 60,000 survivors, and the stories of survivors are still emerging. A women stayed on the roof but slipped her daughter. "I saved myself but lost my daughter, but I have not given up" she said. A man, believed to be clinging on the wall of the building, burst into tears when handed a cup of drink. A group of students assembled at a playground and fashioned into SOS were later spotted and rescued by a helicopter.
Witnesses said they later see the seabed when the water retreated, many were still stunned by the calamity.
